Chapel Down toasts Oxford & Cambridge triumphs as the Official Wine of The Boat Races

The 163rd Boat Race and the 72nd Women’s Boat Race took place yesterday, Sunday 2nd April 2017, with Oxford claiming victory in the Men’s Boat Race and Cambridge victorious in the Women’s.  The winning teams celebrated on the podium by spraying jeroboams of Chapel Down Brut – the official sparkling wine of The Boat Races.

As well as being enjoyed by the thirsty victors, our wine was served on-board Her Majesty The Queen’s Royal Rowbarge, the Gloriana, for VIP guests who travelled down the Thames before the races began and in the hospitality suites at the start and finish lines. There was also pop-up bar at the start line on Putney Embankment, which was home to thousands of spectators, as well as having our wines served in the Bishops Park official fan park, on Sunday afternoon.

Chapel Down branding was featured at numerous points along the course, including 30 foot banners on Barnes Bridge and Putney Embankment and a 40 foot digital advert at Cheyne Walk in Chelsea.

This is the first year of a four-year partnership in which Chapel Down is the Official Wine of The Boat Races. Following this, our wines now listed in various Oxbridge colleges as a part of our wider marketing campaign; ‘Great Minds Drink Alike’.

Frazer Thompson, CEO at Chapel Down, commented: “Some days will live long in the memory. From the elite athletes who starred in a day they will never forget, to the thousands of spectators who lined the Thames to show their support and the millions who watched the coverage on television in the UK and abroad.  We are thrilled that Chapel Down are the sparkling partner of such a great British event and able to make a memorable day even more enjoyable. The Boat Race truly is peculiarly British, very special and something of which we can all feel very proud. The perfect fit with Chapel Down.”
