We had a fantastic weekend welcoming over 300 guests to our annual Vine Lease Holders weekend. The celebratory three day event marked the end of the 2014 Vine Lease Scheme and we were delighted to welcome Joe Wadsack, BBC Food & Drink wine expert, as our guest host for the event.
Vine lease holders were invited to visit their vineyard plots followed by a guided tour of the winery and tutored tasting led by Joe Wadsack. Over lunch, guests were treated to a spectacular sabrage display where Joe opened (after several attempts!) a bottle of Chapel Down fizz using only a wine glass after which guests were invited to learn the more traditional art of opening a bottle of fizz using a sabrage sword.
To conclude the experience, vine lease holders were presented with a case of their very own Chapel Down Tenterden Estate Bacchus 2014 each with customised labels. A great weekend was had by all and planning is underway for next year already!
"A belated thank you very much for yet another superb Vine Lease Holders session. The ambience, camaraderie and food certainly matched the excellent wines. We had a wonderful time (as usual) and have learned something new to add to our repertoire of wine knowledge - watch out Frazer and Guy! Thank you, thank you. We look forward to seeing you for the harvest, if not next year."
"We bought a few vines for a year as a gift to each other for which the main attraction is an invite to an event in a marquee to taste some of the fine wines, learn about the production and collect your box of personalised wine. The team were all on hand along with helpful staff to present an entertaining afternoon with stunning wines and some decent food to a pretty smart crowd. We left in no doubt that English wines, especially the fizz, with recent vintages are to rival any in the world...great to see passion bringing success to the area."
"Thanks for a great day at the Vine Lease Holder’s event. We very much enjoyed the entire experience and the lunch was lovely. To top it all, when we pointed out to your team that we were vegetarian but had two Cocker Spaniels at home they very kindly gave us a ‘doggy bag’!"
