Grape Variety
Our English Rose wine is a lively blend of 8 red and white grape varieties. Dominated by Pinot Noir (57%) to impart the wine with it's characteristic summer berry palate, it's created from different juice fractions of the same top quality Pinot Noir grapes used in our acclaimed sparkling wines. Lesser known Germanic red grape varieties such as Rondo (8%), Regent (4%) and Dornfelder (1%),are incorporated into the blend to imbue the classic rosé hue.
Vineyard
To ensure consistent top quality fruit for this wine, we source from a collection of vineyards in Kent, Sussex and Essex. Grapes are grown predominantly on single and double guyot pruning systems, on varied soils including, chalk, clay and loam soils to best benefit the grape varietals grown.
Winemaking
Unlike most rosés, the distinctive salmon pink colour of our English Rose wine is produced without skin maceration, instead relying on the juice of the red grape varietals to imbue colour. By whole bunch pressing Early Pinot Noir (12%), Rondo (8%) and Regent (4%) grapes, the level of tannins is reduced, requiring less sugar to be added in the winemaking process to create a light and smooth wine.
